Have Any Questions?

Whether you’re a contractor, installer, or homeowner, our FAQ section covers the most common questions about our products, services, lead times, and ordering process — so you can get the information you need, quickly and easily.

Vacuum-pressed wrap doors offer one of the most cost-effective solutions for achieving moulded door designs — a stylish alternative to costly solid wood options.

Here’s why wrap doors are a smart, high-performing choice:

  • Modern, Stylish & Globally Trusted:
Wrap doors are sleek, functional, and widely used by designers, architects, and contractors around the world to create beautiful, contemporary interiors.

  • Superior Material Quality:
Made using high-density MDF (also known as Supawood), wrap doors offer better structural integrity than chipboard-based cut-and-edge melamine doors. This makes them especially suitable for areas with higher moisture levels, such as coastal homes.

  • Endless Design Possibilities:
One major advantage of vinyl wrap doors is their design flexibility. MDF panels can be machined into a wide range of shapes and profiles — from clean, flat doors to more intricate, routed patterns — giving you plenty of creative freedom.

  • Extensive Colour & Finish Selection:
With over 400 colour and texture combinations available, wrapped MDF far surpasses the limited palette of standard melamine (which typically offers around 50–60 options). Finishes include smooth, textured, wood grain, embossed, satin, and gloss — offering looks so refined, they often rival painted doors.

  • Durability & Low Maintenance:
Designed to stand up to everyday use, wrap doors are highly resistant to chipping, scratching, and moisture under normal conditions. They don’t warp or swell like other materials might, and they never require repainting — just a quick wipe-down keeps them looking new.

  • Easy to Keep Clean:
Cleaning is simple and gentle — a soft cloth with mild soapy water is all you need. Tougher stains can be handled with diluted methylated spirits. There’s no need for abrasive cleaners, which can damage the surface.

  • Seamless, Hygienic Edges:
Unlike melamine or chipboard slab doors with visible glue lines and edging, wrap doors are fully sealed around the edges, reducing gaps where dirt and bacteria can collect. This makes them a more hygienic choice, especially in kitchens or bathrooms.

  • Available in Multiple Thicknesses:
Wrap doors come in various thicknesses — including 12mm, 16mm, 19mm, 22mm, and even 30mm — making them suitable for diverse cabinetry needs and design applications.

  • Wide Range of Matching Accessories:
Complete your cabinetry with matching wrap accessories like shaped doors, CNC panels, cornices, filler strips, and lightshields — all designed to enhance and finish your space with style and consistency.

From sleek modern kitchens to classic cabinetry, our products are designed to offer both style and long-lasting performance — proudly manufactured at our facility in Pretoria.

Unfortunately, re-wrapping old cupboard doors or panels is not recommended, as it often leads to poor results and higher costs.
Our specialised 3D vinyl-wrapping process is designed for flat, unassembled components — not for previously used or installed cabinetry.

There are several reasons why resurfacing old doors is not practical:

  • Removing the original vinyl requires heating the doors to over 110°C, which often damages the material, causing warping, bending, or surface distortion.

  • Stripping and preparing old doors takes significantly more time and effort than producing new ones. In most cases, it’s nearly impossible to fully remove the old adhesive, which compromises the new wrap.

  • The original failure (like peeling or bubbling) often results from poor-quality glue — and trying to repair that only leads to further issues.

  • Even with extensive prep, the final result is unpredictable, and we can’t guarantee durability or finish quality.

Better alternatives include:

  • Painting the existing doors if they are in reasonable condition

  • Ordering brand-new vinyl wrap doors from us — which often costs less than expected and comes with guaranteed quality and finish

If you’re considering replacement, simply provide us with the door sizes, preferred colour, and design profile, and we’ll gladly prepare a quote.

A wrapped door or panel consists of a Supawood core that is covered with a PVC vinyl sheet, available in a vast array of colours and finishes.

Here’s how we produce these components:

  • We start by cutting and CNC routing MDF or Supawood panels precisely to the customer’s specified dimensions and design.

  • Next, the pieces are carefully sanded to create a smooth surface.

  • A heat-activated adhesive is then evenly sprayed onto the areas where the vinyl wrap will be applied.

  • Once the glue dries, the surfaces are sanded again to ensure an even finish.

  • The panels are placed in a vacuum press, layered with the chosen vinyl foil. The press heats both the glue and vinyl, then uses vacuum pressure to tightly mold the foil around the panel — including any detailed profiles or patterns — similar to wrapping a blanket snugly around an object.

  • Finally, the wrapped doors are trimmed, cleaned, and packaged, ready for delivery and installation.

Choosing to match wrap doors with melamine panels often depends on factors like budget, door design, and colour preferences. It’s important to understand the differences and characteristics of both materials before making a decision.

Wrap doors and panels are made from Supawood or MDF, coated with a PVC foil using a high-pressure process. This allows for a wide range of designs and a far greater selection of colours compared to melamine.

Melamine, however, consists of chipboard covered with a resin-impregnated overlay, applied through a low-pressure process. It comes only as flat sheets with a uniform surface, limiting design options.

Because these two materials are inherently different, even the best colour and texture matches might not be exact.

Here are some guidelines to help you decide:

  • Start by checking if your chosen wrap colour has a melamine equivalent.

  • If a potential match exists, compare physical samples of both materials side by side. Relying solely on photos can be misleading due to differences in lighting, camera quality, and screen settings.

  • Use photos only as a reference tool, not as the final decision-maker.

  • If no suitable melamine match is available, it’s best to order exposed panels from your wrap door supplier to ensure consistency.

When ordering additional doors or alterations to your current cabinetry, please be aware that slight colour variations may occur in the PVC foil used on our kitchen wrap doors. These differences can result from:

  • The natural ageing of the foil over time

  • Minor inconsistencies between different production batches of the vinyl wrap

  • It’s essential to inform us if your order is an addition to a previous purchase or existing cabinetry so we can do our best to match the foil batch. However, exact matching depends on the availability of specific stock from our suppliers.

Please note:
While we make every effort to ensure colour consistency, some variation is unavoidable. These slight differences do not compromise the quality, durability, or overall look of your doors.

If your kitchen cabinets are still in good shape but the doors and drawer fronts look worn or outdated, replacing just these parts can dramatically transform your space without the high cost of a full renovation. Refacing your kitchen by installing new doors and exposed panels is an affordable and effective way to give your kitchen a fresh, updated look.

If you choose colours similar to your current cabinetry, there’s no need to worry about matching existing edging or panels. Alternatively, you can experiment with a modern, mixed-colour style for a completely new vibe.

Here’s a simple process to get started:

  • Select the door design that appeals to you

  • Pick your preferred colour or woodgrain finish

  • Measure your existing doors and drawer fronts

  • Measure any exposed panels you want to replace

  • Email us your measurements and preferences, and we’ll provide a detailed quote for your new door set, ready for easy installation

This approach offers a budget-friendly, hassle-free way to breathe new life into your kitchen without the expense of replacing the entire cabinetry.

Cleaning and General Care:

  • Use a soft sponge or lint-free cloth with mild dish soap to gently clean the doors. Avoid soaking the doors or using excessively wet cloths.

  • Clean up cooking splashes promptly—they’re much easier to remove while still wet.

  • Always dry the doors thoroughly after cleaning to prevent moisture damage.

  • Avoid abrasive materials such as steel wool, sandpaper, scouring pads, or harsh commercial cleaners.

  • Never use products containing acids, ammonia, thinners, turpentine, petrol, alcohol, bleach, acetone, or furniture oils.

Protect from Heat:

  • Keep heat sources like toasters or kettles away from wall-mounted cupboards while in use.

  • Position kettles so steam directs away from cabinetry.

  • If cabinets are installed above your stove, always use a cooker hood or extractor fan to minimize heat and steam exposure.

Prevent Moisture Damage:

  • Wipe up spills and water immediately—do not allow liquids to pool on doors or panels.

  • Avoid direct contact with standing water, and regularly check for leaks under sinks or in vanity units.

Handle with Care:

  • Avoid hitting doors with heavy or sharp objects.

  • Keep knobs, handles, and drawer runners securely fastened.

  • Inspect hinges regularly—tighten any loose screws every six months to prevent damage caused by loose fittings.

Use Doors Responsibly:

  • Doors, drawers, and handles are not designed to support climbing—discourage children and adults from leaning or climbing on them.

  • Always close doors and drawers when not in use to avoid injury and prevent damage to hinges.

  • Never force doors open beyond their intended range, and avoid slamming or leaving them open in windy areas.

Following these guidelines will help keep your wrapped doors looking great and functioning smoothly for years to come.

Both MDF (also known as Supawood) and melamine-coated chipboard are popular choices in kitchen cabinetry, each suited to different needs. However, when it comes to design flexibility, durability, aesthetics, and overall quality, there are key differences to consider:

  • Design and Style Options: MDF/Supawood can be precisely routed, carved, and shaped, allowing for a wide variety of attractive door profiles, panels, and decorative trims—almost matching the look of solid wood. Melamine, on the other hand, comes as flat sheets with pre-applied edges that often show a glue line, limiting design possibilities.

  • Durability and Moisture Resistance: MDF/Supawood is available in multiple thicknesses and offers better density and moisture resistance compared to melamine. This makes it a preferred choice for coastal or humid environments. Melamine is generally less dense and more prone to damage in such conditions.

  • Cost Considerations: While MDF doors typically cost a bit more than melamine options, the difference reflects the higher quality, durability, and design versatility. Melamine is often chosen for budget-conscious projects, commonly used for carcasses or basic slab doors where cost is the main factor.

Choosing the right material depends on your priorities, but for lasting style and performance, MDF/Supawood from Doors R Us is often the superior option.

Doors R Us caters to diverse markets, offering solutions for both large projects and individual needs.

A vinyl wrapped door is crafted from an MDF panel that has been precisely cut, routed, and shaped according to your design preferences. This panel is then coated with a vinyl film, which is heat-pressed and vacuum-sealed onto the surface to create a smooth, durable finish. Typically, the back of the door comes pre-laminated for added protection.

It’s important to note that this wrapping process is entirely different from automotive vinyl wrapping.

In South African homes, most cupboard doors are either melamine-coated chipboard or vinyl-wrapped MDF/Supawood, with the latter offering greater design flexibility and durability.

This technique is specifically for individual doors and panels; it cannot be applied to fully assembled cabinets.

Additionally, we offer CNC cutting services for doors, panels, and related decorative trims such as light screens, cornices, and scotias to complete your cabinetry project.

When choosing kitchen or cabinet doors, there are several common materials and finishes to consider, each with its own benefits and drawbacks:

Solid Wood Doors

  • Description: Crafted from natural wood, offering a classic, high-end look.

  • Advantages: Highly durable, can be stained or painted, timeless appeal.

  • Considerations: Typically more costly and requires regular maintenance.

  • Design Flexibility: Can be routed or profiled on both the face and edges.

Veneer Wood Doors

  • Description: Thin real wood veneer applied over MDF or chipboard substrate.

  • Advantages: Provides the appearance of wood at a lower cost, relatively stable.

  • Considerations: Less durable than solid wood and usually not suitable for heavy routing.

  • Design Flexibility: Limited profiling options, sometimes a simple bevel on the edges.

Painted MDF Doors

  • Description: Smooth MDF doors painted in any desired color or finish.

  • Advantages: Offers a sleek, customizable look with many colour options.

  • Considerations: Prone to chipping or damage without proper care; colour matching can be tricky later on.

  • Design Flexibility: Can be routed or profiled on face and edges.

MDF Vinyl Wrapped Doors

  • Description: MDF panels covered with durable thermofoil or 3D PVC vinyl wrap.

  • Advantages: Resistant to moisture, easy to clean, wide range of colours and finishes.

  • Considerations: Repairs can be difficult; excessive heat can cause delamination.

  • Design Flexibility: Supports routing and profiling on face and edges.

Melamine Slab Doors

  • Description: Particleboard with a melamine surface layer.

  • Advantages: Budget-friendly, easy to maintain, available in many colours.

  • Considerations: Edging glue lines may be visible; edges can peel over time.

  • Design Flexibility: Not suitable for routing or profiling.

To ensure your wrap doors stay in perfect condition, please follow these guidelines:

Loading and Transportation:

  • Handle doors carefully to avoid bumps or damage.

  • Load doors flat and stack them securely like a puzzle to prevent movement.

  • Use a closed vehicle or cover the doors to protect them from direct sunlight and heat, especially during summer.

  • Unload doors as soon as you arrive at your destination.

  • Avoid leaving doors exposed to the sun on your vehicle for long periods.

  • Keep doors dry—wipe off any spills immediately and never allow doors to sit in standing water.

On-Site Handling:

  • Unload doors promptly upon arrival.

  • Fit hinges and install doors as soon as possible to reduce exposure to environmental elements.

  • Do not leave doors on vehicles or in direct sunlight during installation.

On-Site Storage:

  • Avoid storing doors in humid or very hot environments, such as metal sheds or containers.

  • Do not place doors directly on cold or uneven floors.

  • Store doors flat on a level surface, supported evenly by scrap wood or offcuts spaced out to prevent warping. Stack neatly to keep their shape.

  • For short periods, doors can be stored upright against a wall during fitting, but protect the bottom with offcuts.

Following these steps will help maintain the quality and appearance of your wrap doors throughout the installation process.

Kitchens and built-in cabinets can be seriously damaged by water and heat if not properly cared for. To avoid costly damage, please follow these guidelines:

Water:

  • Make sure your tiler or subcontractor seals the joints between tiles and worktops with silicone, not grout. Silicone provides a flexible, waterproof seal.

  • Wipe up any water spills on worktops, floors, and inside cabinets immediately, especially around the sink area. If water runs down cupboard doors, dry both the bottom edges of the doors and the underside of the worktop right away to prevent absorption.

Heat:

  • Avoid placing toasters, fryers, or other heat-generating appliances directly under wall cupboards, lightscreens, or shields. Instead, position these appliances at the front of the countertop or under an extractor hood to allow heat to disperse safely.

  • Kettles should never be used under wall cabinets as the heat and steam can cause damage. Always position the kettle so its spout faces away from the cabinets.

Important Note:
Doors R Us cannot be held responsible for any damage caused by exposure to water, moisture, or heat due to improper use or installation.
